Katherine Frye

I started my career differently than most. Rather than start at a big corporate firm, in 2001 I took a leap and opened my own firm right out of law school. Sink or swim meant learning the ropes of family law, while building a business from the ground up. That experience instilled in me a diligence and work ethic that benefits my clients to this day. With a desire to grow further, I became an NC Board Certified Specialist in Family Law in 2007. But the professional accomplishment I am most proud of is becoming a fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers – a distinction held by very few attorneys in North Carolina.

Family law involves far more than just divorce. It’s about property, finances, children – the very foundation of your life. To be effective, I take a holistic approach and prioritize learning. In addition to all of the traditional areas of family law, my works involves navigating the legal issues surrounding real estate, business, and taxes. I also keep myself educated on mental health issues and financial planning, because these often play a role in divorce and family cases.

Compassion is a core value of our practice. I understand firsthand the emotional toll a divorce can take. Like many of my clients, I once found myself facing an unexpected divorce as a mother with a teenager. That’s why I strive to be practical and efficient, while keeping a sense of humor. Laughter can be a powerful tool during a difficult time.

I also value leadership and professionalism. I’ve served on the NC State Bar for many years, and have been selected to take the role of president in October 2026. I have great respect for the legal professionals in our state and am gratified to give back to the professional community. Local reputation and the ability to work with colleagues is important—likely far more important than clients may realize. The confidence my peers have placed in me is something I appreciate and carefully guard.

But being a good lawyer isn’t just about credentials. It’s also about balance. To be my best for you, I need to take care of myself. Whether it’s hitting the gym, tackling home projects with my daughter, or enjoying a good trivia night with friends, I find ways to recharge and stay sharp. Life sometimes throws family-sized curveballs. I will help you navigate them with a steady hand, sound legal advice, and maybe even a well-timed joke.
